Announcement: Denison Fall Information

Fall information for arriving international students

Dear International Students, including Denisonians Abroad,

We’re excited for the coming academic year and know there are questions concerning the Fall 2021 semester. We are also aware of continuing challenges pertaining to travel to the U.S. and are working on a plan for those of you currently outside the US that will provide some flexibility and some certainty concerning your arrival to campus.

The arrival dates for continuing and first-year (FY) students are listed below. We also know there are questions regarding COVID-19 vaccinations and the return to campus in the fall.  We know that vaccines are not as widely available outside the United States -- please don’t worry. We will be excited to welcome you in the fall and will have plans in place to help international students be vaccinated upon arrival to the United States.   Some preliminary information is below.  We hope to be able to share more information about arrivals and other fall return details in June, if not before. We recommend that you continue to regularly monitor your email for general updates.

Arrival dates for FY international students attending orientation: August 20, 21, and 22
Arrival dates for continuing international students: August 27, 28, and 29, 2021 (airport shuttle for continuing students: https://denison.wufoo.com/forms/r5vke751d7palg/)

FAQs for International Students about the COVID-19 Vaccine:
Denison University has announced that it will require all incoming and returning students to receive the COVID-19 vaccine in order to protect themselves and our community.

Vaccines are not available in my home country or I prefer to be vaccinated in the United States.  Can I get vaccinated when I arrive at Denison? If so, what is the process?
Yes. Denison is aware that vaccines are not as widely available in some other countries or that some vaccines that are available in certain countries are not approved for emergency use by the World Health Organization (WHO) or the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). We also realize that some international students will prefer to be vaccinated with one of the vaccines available in the United States: Pfizer, Moderna, or Johnson and Johnson.  While all U.S. students are required to be vaccinated prior to returning to campus, Denison will allow international students to be vaccinated upon arrival to the U.S. and campus.  We will send more information about how that process will work over the summer. We need you to complete this form as soon as possible to let us know the status of the vaccine.

The vaccine available in my country has not been approved in the US. Will it meet the university COVID-19 vaccine requirement?
Denison will welcome all international students back to campus, regardless of whether they receive a vaccine in their home country or not.

I have already had COVID-19 and recovered, do I need to be vaccinated?
Yes. All students must be vaccinated for the fall regardless of whether they have previously had COVID-19.

What vaccines comply with Denison’s requirement?
Students who completed a COVID-19 vaccination series with a vaccine that has been authorized for emergency use by the World Health Organization (WHO) or an FDA-authorized COVID-19 vaccine will comply with Denison’s immunization requirement.

What if I received a vaccine that is not approved by the FDA or the WHO?
Students who completed or partially completed a COVID-19 vaccine series with a vaccine that is not authorized by FDA or not authorized for emergency use by WHO will be offered an FDA-authorized COVID-19 vaccine series. The minimum interval between the last dose of a non-FDA authorized vaccine and an FDA-authorized COVID-19 vaccine is 28 days.

Will Denison provide vaccines to international students arriving in the fall?
Yes -- Denison will arrange vaccine access for incoming and returning international students needing to be vaccinated upon arrival to campus. The Wellness Center webpage will be updated in the future with fall vaccine distribution details, and our office will follow up directly with an email. In addition, you can get your first or second dose at a local pharmacy (CVS in Granville) or through the Licking County Department of Health.

Will I have to pay for the vaccine?
No. The US government is providing the vaccine free of charge to all people living in the United States, regardless of their immigration or health insurance status.
Thank you for reading and please feel free to contact us with any further questions or concerns. We look forward to seeing all of you in the Fall!

What if I don't have transportation to a vaccine clinic?
The Licking County Transit Board provides free transportation to and from all vaccine clinics in Licking County. Community members can call Transit to request service to a vaccine clinic, letting the dispatcher know it's for a COVID-19 vaccine. To schedule a ride, call 740-670-5185 and press 1 or call 1-800-350-7071.
