Announcement: DHS proposed rule

The proposed rule would change the admission period structure for F-1 students
On September 25, 2020, the Department of Homeland Security released a proposal that would change the admission period structure for F, J, and I visa holders.  The proposed rule would eliminate “Duration of Status” (D/S), and persons entering the U.S. in F, J, or I status would be admitted for a specified length of time with options and procedures for extensions.

Please note that this published rule is in the proposal stage, which means that it is not yet law and does not have an effective date. The proposed rule will be open on the Federal Register for public comment for 30 days. DHS will then analyze the comments and decide whether to proceed with the proposed rule or if it will issue a new or modified proposal.

Please rest assured that the university is working on analyzing this proposed rule and we will share information and updates as soon as they become available. We are also committed to advocating on behalf of all our international students and supporting them through this complicated time.
